This is a great place to take well-behaved dogs with good recall! There are many interweaving paths and multiple access points to the Sheep River but also some marshy spots where you probably don't want your dog to go. Usually you will meet other people as thus is a popular place.

This is one of my all time favorite dog parks. I often take the hour drive from Calgary there.

The park is very large. Lots of trees for shade and access to the water in several spots. Lots of benches along the paths to take a rest and enjoy the views. You have a main path which is mainly flat and would be fine for a stroller.

They have lots of smaller paths in the forest area .

You can access the water at the start of the park by continuing straight. You can walk along the river for a bit before you need to get back on the path due to the cliff. After the cliff areas there is another spot along the river you can access. This area has water that is less strong and not so deep.

If you continue towards the end you can find some old cars. Along the east side of the park is ranch that's fenced off with cattle. The west side is the river. So dogs are corraled.

There's a lot of wooded pathways to explore plus the river, which is going to suit some dogs more than others. But we didn't feel as comfortable bringing our dogs here as we do at the Okotoks park - even though it has more varied features some of them may not be as safe for some dogs. There were places where the pathway ended with an abrupt and steep drop down into the fast-flowing river plus there is no gate separating the car-park and it'd be easy to get lost in the wooded pathways that were quite overgrown. If your dog is larger and more obedient than our 3 that are prone to get carried away chasing each other, it's probably fine.

My mom and I came from high river to check it out, and we're glad we did!

*accessibility is an issue here if your trying to enjoy the river access. Narrow pathways that are a bit over grown going along the river, and muddy hill down to the river itself. This area is also bottlenecked, so not much room for multiple people.*

That said, we really enjoyed our experience here, and my dog really enjoyed the small trails and loved playing in the river! Oh! One last disclosure, while we were there the river was a bit higher, and rushing pretty good, would absolutely recommend supervision at the river at all times!

We drive from Calgary at least once every few weeks to bring our two dogs here. We feel like this is the best dog park ever, it’s our favourite, we love how big and spread out it is, with all the terrains dogs love from going for a swim in the river to regular walking paths to paths in the woods, there are also dog poo disposal bins and usually bags there as well if you forgot yours. Most people seem to respect this park and clean up after themselves and their dogs as it is very clean/maintained. There are also various nice benches around the park and it is so spread out that there are many places to put down a blanket and have a picnic. The only thing is there are no outhouses but the town is a couple minute walk or drive away.
