First of all, our trip director (Amber) and our driver (Steph) were great. Overall, the trip was good. Some stops didn't allow enough time to see everything, but that's typical for these types of trips. The food was good, except at the Black Swan Inn. However, some of Costsaver's practices are very poor.

We booked this trip well in advance with an early bird pricing. Unfortunately, it was canceled a couple of weeks before departure. Costsaver offered us a shorter trip on similar dates but refused to honor our original early bird pricing. Instead, they charged us a higher "last minute booking" rate. Despite speaking to multiple representatives, they wouldn't lower the extra $800 charge.

Travel agents and other travel companies advised that they would have honored the original agreement and offered perks for the inconvenience since the cancellation was not our fault. This trip was for our honeymoon, so we decided to go ahead anyway.

The most frustrating part was that the week after they insisted they couldn’t lower our price, they reduced the trip cost on their site. We were already booked on the new trip and they still refused to adjust our price. We won't use Costsaver again unless they correct this with us.

Another thing we found is that you cannot leave reviews on their site until you are on the trip. I imagine others who faced last-minute cancellations and didn’t accept the new trip can’t leave reviews either. I recommend looking at other travel companies.

Our tour director Richard and bus driver Paulo were excellent. That’s why I gave 2 stars. The tour itself was not at all what I expected. Hours on a bus. Seeing most sights from a moving bus. Hotels were in poor condition One even had obvious black mold on the walls and ceiling. Hotels were so far from anywhere it really was difficult and sometimes impossible to see any sights. Most tours were an added optional tour at a cost Which was not explained until already on the tour. Food was just awful. Example most lunches were a bag of chips from a rest stop. This is definitely not a company I will ever use in the future and I know for sure this was the consensus of the 37 of us on the tour

Vietnam with Cost Saver - amazing experience in a country that should be on everyone's "must see" list. Great balance of touring with excellent Travel Director and free time to explore on one's own or with small operators in the location. In Hoi An, I joined bicycle tour of the countryside. It was eye-opening and delightful: meeting local families, learning how to make rice paper, sharing lunch. Great way to travel and great value for money.
