I'm a repeat mail order customer over the span of 18 years. Before that, dating back to 1975, I've often borrowed the classic fixed-blade knives from my parents, while camping.
In terms of aesthetics, craftwork, and utility, these rank among the finest knives in the world. The knife I bought 18 years ago has now been handed down to my daughter as a prized heirloom. My new folding mini Russell is so nice, that I just ordered two more as gifts to family and friends.

To put it bluntly, the company and its products stink, the latter literally.
I got set of their knives as a gift. My joy was short lived as soon I noticed one of the knives has strong, obnoxious chemical odor. They responded to my first email ("wash it with soup and water", it didn't work) but than ignored my subsequent complaints (I guess too inundated with complaints about their products).
It's beyond me why people are willing to wait for their knives for months while you can get the same quality in the nearest Walmart, cheaper, faster and with better return policy.
By the way, the second knife of the set got blunt after less than 4 weeks of light use.

I had been in the market for new kitchen knives for sometime. I wasn’t sold on buying big brand name ones, or jumping on the Japanese knife craze. So I kept using my crappy dull knives. Then recently the crazy Trade Wars started and I saw a post on fb for these Grohmann knives made in Canada. I was mostly interested in supporting Canada, I didn’t do my due diligence and read reviews. Unfortunately I found the order process a little clunky, I ended up calling my order in. The woman I spoke with said there were 9 ppl working in the shop making knives. That still didn’t give me a timeline though. I didn’t ask what the turnaround time would be, I wasn’t necessarily in a rush. However 3wks went by, so I sent them an email. I’m not sure if it was coincidence, but they responded with charges to my visa and an email with a shipping notification. This seemed to be manual, not automatic. Anyways my knives arrived about 5 days later. They were in a flimsy box wrapped in packing paper and each knife was in a plastic sheath. I thought ohh this wasn’t the un boxing experience I imagined. But it was actually fine. We didn’t need fancy box to throw away! It just wasn’t what we are used to. So far my knives are performing well. A nice change from my very dull ones.
My overall experience has been good, I would just point out to the company, that it would be good for them to ensure they have strong communication with their customers, explain any possible delays before they happen. As the bar is set high for online experiences as a lot of other retailers try to mimic the giant online piranha. Good customer service = happy customers. Happy customers = more customers which equal more sales. I would also suggest you make some updates to your online presence and processes, so customers aren’t frustrated trying to place an order. Best Wishes to you! I hope with the Buy 🇹🇩 movement that your sales and bottom line both benefit.

Ive recently placed an order for 2 knives, and for circumstances out of my control money has become tighter recently which is what lead me to the "seconds" . This was my first time ordering seconds and wasnt totally sure what to expect but figured it was worth trying out . My order was placed on a thursday evening and was delivered to my house in manitoba the following friday . While i havent put either of the two knives to hard use yet im quite happy with what i received, nice and sharp right out of the box and in my opinion both knives were of great quality and any small defects if you even want to call them that were so insignificant that id almost call them character marks of a hand made knife . The shipping was a few dollars more than the "estimated shipping ", but that being said , was clearly noted that it was estimated shipping and actual shipping charges would apply, .. big deal . All in all happy with my purchase and will probbably place another order in the near future for another factory second and hope im as lucky with that purchase aswell.

I have recently purchased a mini lockblade with a clip point and a #1 flat grind with a wine resinwood handle. Both are factory seconds with minor imperfections but despite this, the overall quality of both are good and I am happy with them. I purchased the mini lockblade because I wanted a knife that I could keep on my belt without noticing that it is there. It is small enough that it does not get in the way and is not visible under your shirt. I now use it for general purpose tasks while on my adventures up north, or when I am out and about where I live. It is a beautiful knife with a sharp blade. Now I purchased the #1 with a flat grind as a replacement for my current hunting knife. Although it has not been used on an animal yet, what I can say about it is that it has a razor sharp finish, and feels great in your hand. These Grohmann knives are not only beautifully designed, they are also Canadian made for a more than fair price. My overall experience with Grohmann was great, they shipped out both knives quickly and both came sooner then expected. I will be a returning customer, my only regret is that I did not know about them sooner!

Ironic the first time I order a knife from grohmann that isnt a second is easily the worst craftsmanship Ive seen. Ive been a customer and a supporter for years and I am dismayed to see this sort of poor craftsmanship. The only explanation I received is they are handmade and vary, I would have been surprised to see this put out as a second

Go online and go somewhere else.

+edit from after the stores reply+

The store replied that the handle was faded and discolored as the reason for not accepting a return. If the knives are such excellent guilty, how can they deteriorate so badly from Christmas to mid January? It's almost more concerning that the quality is so bad then thier crummy return policy. Just another reason to go somewhere else.

Have several knifes and got another for Christmas. Used it once and found it to long. Brought it into the store to return and was told since I used it there was nothing they could do. They really need to get with the times and update their return policy. Won't be buying anymore.

Copy of the email I sent to them: I got one of your 10" chef knifes for Christmas, I have collected several of your knives over the years and thought this would be a good addition. I used it to prep one meal and found it too long and unwieldy. I brought it to your store to exchange it for a smaller one and was told since it was used they couldn't return it. there were no marks, blemishes, knicks and I had the original packaging it came with. I was going to upgrade to a more expensive knife and you easily could have taken the knife I was returning and put it back on display as it was completely fine, or if you felt it wouldn't be "new" easily put it in the seconds.
I left without buying anything, and the friend I brought with me also didn't buy anything. You not only missed out on an easy upsell, you lost a lifelong customer. I can easily get a similar knife online or from a big box store with a 100% return policy. You small business complain about losing customers to big stores—you need to have some edge to keep you relevant. Customer service could have been it.
