Our group paddled 5 days on Lake Superior from St. Ignace Island to Rossport. Our leader Zack is very knowledgeable and shares information about the area's history, geography and wildlife. The guides (Holly and Marybeth) were always helpful and enthusiastic, fostering a team approach to paddling and camping, and providing paddling tips.

Safety and care for the environment were taken seriously on this trip. The weather forecast was checked multiple times per day and we were able to adjust our paddling route and timing in response to weather and water conditions.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and plan to repeat with a longer trip.

We took the Level 1 course from SAND in June, and just completed our first independent kayak trip (with SAND equipment rentals) this August. The course experience, Zack’s informative book (“A paddler’s guide to the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area”), and Zack’s support in the planning of our trip, meant that we had a super fun and glorious 5 day trip in the Rossport Islands! Despite crazy wind changes and a storm that blew in, and high wave conditions, we managed several large crossings, explored many awe inspiring places, and felt that we were well equipped to manage the decision-making and information gathering required to have a safe and exciting trip. Thank you to Zack and Pete for the memorable and useful course instruction, and thank you to SAND for great equipment and advice! Can’t wait to head out again on that beautiful lake! Thank you for opening this majestic piece of the planet up for us!

It’s been on my bucket list to paddle out to the lighthouse for a few years! Thanks to Caesar, Holly and the person answering my text messages. It was safe, friendly and they made a real point to paddle to the participants abilities. They were also very accommodating to my partner who is quite tall and needed a different kayak. I didn’t know how far the lighthouse would be or how long it would take, but it was about 20 min! We got to take our time and it was such a pleasurable experience.

We had a great evening paddle with Zack and it was a truly memorable tour. He is so knowledgeable about the islands and the history of the area. Although we are experienced kayakers, being on Lake Superior is a different story and we felt safe and comfortable the entire tour. Hope to be able to do it again!

I had a great introduction to sea kayaking going on a full-day tour to Battle Island with Such A Nice Day Adventures.
Our guide Pablo gave us a concise introduction to the basic skills and safety measures and then we were off for a day of fun.
All equipment was included and top notch; even though it was quite windy on the water, I stayed warm and always felt safe.
I highly recommend S.A.N.D and plan to be back for one of their skills courses!

We had such an amazing experience with S.A.N.D. We rented a double kayak for an overnight kayak-camping trip. The owner is very helpful, the gear was great quality and the area is super beautiful. He had amazing recommendations for where to go, where to camp and what to see and provided us with maps which made it super easy to navigate. We definitely recommend this company!

Awesome, we are from Thunder Bay and come out once or twice a year for a paddle. I rather rent the gear and be guided than try to own everything, so I love that fact here. SAND fully supplies everything. Zack is an awesome guide, and expert, paddles daily, winter or rain, always out on the water. He does winter tours too on the ice. The dry suits are super warm, and comfortable. Also, Rossport and this area are super beautiful, and peaceful, and just nothing else like it around. I am no expert kayaker, and I can barely fit myself 280lbs, but it is great to be on the water, and Zack is accomodating and makes it work for bigger guys like myself. Everyone else smaller than me fits.

We had a fantastic paddling excursion with Zak. He was willing change the itinerary of the paddle according to our whims and stayed out with us much longer than the planned excursion. Very professional and experienced. We felt incredibly safe and learned a lot. The scenery was incredible. Loved it.
