Nice historic place from the 1790s with amazing stories and narratives. The tour guide for the 2:30 pm slot on Saturday really helped make the visit enjoyable and brought the historic heritage to life.

From small details like telling us about hair curlers, feet warmers, soap scrapers, water pump, heating logs to vanity items used by the Lynde family women, the guide shared a lot of interesting facts.

When restoring, artists carefully copied the original wallpapers and decorations. In one room, they even show both the originals and the restored versions side by side.

Since the Lynde family belonged to the Quaker school of thought, they intentionally left small mistakes in wallpaper patterns, like floral designs cutting off midway, as Quakers believed only God is perfect.

All in all, it’s a beautifully preserved building which has lived two historical lives. In the past, the Lynde family even offered it to troops fighting against the US in 1812.

There’s also a small gift shop with memorabilia. Free parking is available and there’s a small park alongside the building with some swings for kids too.

Remember to start tour from Warren General Store shop next to it.

It's like going back in time. A house that is rare to find. The tour guide Lisa has a vast knowledge of this house and the family who lived there. It also has a gift shop next door with multiple historic items.

This house is amazing, It's like stepping back in time to see how our ancestor's lived. You get your own personal tour guide dressed in period clothing. I was lucky enough to receive Kelsey who did a fantastic job. You could tell she thoroughly enjoyed what she is doing. Thank you. Furniture, wall coverings and accessories are all original from the time period.
They do ask for a donation to help cover some costs. It's well worth it and I highly recommend it.

The amount of work that has gone into making this experience is phenomenal! Everybody in the Durham region should visit at least once in their life. The staff are very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgable not to mention that they run completely on donation. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

Throughout the past 20 plus years my family has enjoyed going through this house even back to when it was at Cullen Gardens. It’s hard to believe that we continue to learn more at every visit. Now that is it on Brock St. in Whitby you can go to their special events throughout the year and recently they have added Afternoon Tea opportunities. You can book your own private tea. A group of 8 of us booked it where we had a tour and then later enjoyed a tasty tea and sandwiches plus desserts in the dining room. So cool to be immersed in the local history. So many age groups can enjoy the Lynde House.

Lovely local historical home. Worth a visit. The staff are great and knowledgeable. This house used to be at the old Cullin Gardens many years ago.
