Escaping the hustle and bustle of urban life, even if only for a day, can be an incredibly refreshing experience. Last weekend, I had the pleasure of visiting Anniversary Park, more commonly known to locals as Chestermere Beach, and it was a day well spent.

Waters that Welcome 🌊

While the beach was teeming with visitors, it did nothing to detract from the beauty and allure of the place. The water, a gentle contrast of pleasant coolness against the summer sun, provided the perfect setting for both relaxation and play. There’s something invigorating about dipping into slightly cold waters, and Chestermere Beach delivered just that.

Rain: An Unexpected Guest 🌧️

Of course, Mother Nature has her plans, and our day was punctuated by a surprise rain shower. Yet, rather than dampening spirits, it added a touch of whimsy to the outing. There's an undeniable charm in watching raindrops dance upon the water's surface and feeling those cool droplets amidst the warmth.

Facilities: Thoughtfully Provided 🚿

One of the commendable aspects of Chestermere Beach is its facilities. Having access to washrooms, especially during day-long outings, is a boon. The added provision of an outdoor shower space is a thoughtful touch, allowing visitors to rinse off the lake water and sand before heading back home or to their next destination.

While some might have voiced concerns about the beach's cleanliness, my experience stood in stark contrast. The sands beneath my feet felt clean, and the waters were clear, devoid of any noticeable debris. It’s essential to approach such places with an open mind and understand that experiences can vary.

Anniversary Park is a newly redeveloped recreational area on Lake Chestermere, about 23 km /14 miles east of Calgary. Another great recreational area near the city. I came up from California to visit friends there, and we all went out for a picnic on a beautiful sunny day. It's out on the flats, so it was a bit windy. One person was sail boarding. It's nice and new with good bathroom facilities, a perfect man-made sandy beach, a lakeside walk, picnic tables, and large green spaces all neatly maintained. Anniversary Park memorializes the Canadian Armed Forces. There is no admission charge. Summer activities include motorized and non-motorized boating, picnicking, BBQ, swimming, and fishing. Warm sunny weekends are probably somewhat crowded - check other reviews. We went on a weekday summer afternoon and no crowds. In winter there's skating on a maintained rink area and snowmobiling. The City monitors ice thickness.

I also came across a charming little park with picnic tables, perfect for a family outing or a peaceful lunch break.

After my walk, I wandered around the town itself, which has a cozy, small-town vibe. There are a few local shops and cafes that give Chestermere a welcoming, laid-back atmosphere. I stopped by a local bakery for a coffee and some pastries, which were freshly made and delicious. The staff were friendly, and it was the perfect spot to relax and soak in the local charm.

One of the highlights of my visit was discovering the Chestermere Recreation Centre, a community hub offering sports facilities, swimming pools, and fitness classes. I had time to spare, so I decided to check out the indoor pool and spent a relaxing hour swimming. The center was clean, modern, and welcoming to visitors, offering a great way to enjoy some active downtime.

What really struck me about Chestermere was how peaceful and serene the town felt. It's an ideal place to escape for a day, whether you're looking to enjoy nature, engage in outdoor activities, or simply relax by the lake. There’s a real sense of community here, with people out and about enjoying the outdoors and taking full advantage of the town’s recreational facilities.

Chestermere also offers a great sense of convenience for anyone staying in Calgary, making it a perfect day trip if you're looking to explore outside the city. The town offers a refreshing contrast to the fast-paced urban life, with its welcoming atmosphere and beautiful surroundings.

In conclusion, Chestermere may be small, but it’s full of charm and natural beauty. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast, a family looking for a peaceful day out, or simply someone wanting a quiet place to relax, Chestermere is definitely worth a visit. It’s a hidden gem that I’m glad I discovered, and I’ll certainly be returning next time I’m in the Calgary area.

There is a $10 day parking lot just in front of the beach or you can angle park at the right down the road.

Small but nice beach. Kids look like they have ton of fun in the water and sand.

Beautiful and clean place. You don't have to travel far to enjoy the beach! It is located 20 minutes east from downtown Calgary!
