Marty and I stayed at this lovely historic home Aug 4 - 7. We really got into the local history of the Acadians and nearby Fort Anne (built by the Scots) and the Habitation at Port Royal stand out in our memory (founded by Samuel de Champlain in the early 1600s). Our Bailey House host, Rod, is a local history guru besides being a wonderful host. Looking out our window on the second floor onto the water, you could almost imagine what it was like over 200 years ago. Thank you, Rod and Julie, for the delicious breakfasts and company. Marty also liked the nearby Annapolis Brewing Company.

The Bailey Hoise is spotlessly clean with thoughtful touches everywhere, from fresh flowers at breakfast to plush bathrobes and high-quality amenities. Rod was warm and welcoming without being overbearing, and clearly takes pride in his home.

The location is excellent with an easy walk to everything. A private waterfront area with Adirondack chairs made for a lazy afternoon picnic. Breakfast was fresh and delicious each morning, and no detail was overlooked.

We had a lovely visit to the 18th century but with a modern bathroom and comfort. Breakfast was delicious, the host was informative and enthusiastic about the town and the history. Good Wifi. Nice bathroom. Sheets and blankets not a duvet (Hooray!). Fan but no air-conditioning (didn't need it). Highly recommend but be ready for what you get - the floors are a bit wonky because the building has settled, not an accessible building (18th Century), the quiet at night was deep and unfamiliar except for the occasional creak of the building as the night got cooler. We had a view of the river and the misty morning was beautiful. The house if full of antiques and Annapolis Royal is a lovely historic town. We are talking about going back and bringing friends.

Pictures and descriptions on the B&B's web site are accurate. Location is in a quiet area of Annapolis Royal, but no more than 5 minutes' walk to restaurants and shopping. All four guestrooms are on the second floor. Guest living room and dining room are on the first floor. Suzan has done a great job renovating the home while still maintaining its historic characteristics. There are a few quirks like slightly wavey flooring, but we appreciated these as well. Ensuite bathroom is completely up to modern standards. Two wonderful outdoor sitting areas. One across the street facing the Annapolis River and one in the garden behind the house. Breakfast will be one of the highlights of your stay. Definitely among the best I've been served at a B&B. Suzan is an accomplished chef. Ample parking behind the B&B. No lift. I agree with the four-star hotel class rating.
