A MUST-VISIT SHOP IN BANFF FOR AUTHENTIC INDIGENOUS CRAFTS

This remains one of my favorite stops whenever I visit Banff. The Banff Trading Post is a wonderful stop, offering a wide variety of authentic Indigenous crafts, artwork, and souvenirs.

SUPPORTING INDIGENOUS ARTISANS

One of the standout aspects of the Trading Post is its commitment to supporting local and Canadian Indigenous communities. They purchase beading directly from the Stoney Nakoda First Nations, ensuring authenticity and fair support for artisans. If you enjoy beadwork, they also sell seed beads and other stones.

REASONABLE PRICES & GREAT SELECTION

The store carries a range of items, including clothing, slippers, sweaters, caps, sweatshirts, and T-shirts, all at reasonable prices. Whether you’re looking for a meaningful keepsake or a warm sweater for the mountain air, you’ll likely find it here.

UNIQUE HANDCRAFTED ITEMS

Over the years, I’ve purchased earrings, a leather wallet, knitted wool socks, gloves, necklaces, to name a few of the items. The shop showcases an impressive collection of handiwork from various Indigenous tribes, making each visit an opportunity to discover something new.

CONVENIENT LOCATION & FRIENDLY SERVICE

Parking is free for up to two hours, making it easy to stop by without stress. The staff, especially Emilio and Ray, were friendly, courteous, and helpful, making the shopping experience more worthwhile. If you have the opportunity, it will be worthwhile to take a few moments to chat with them and learn more about this wonderful shop!

The Banff Trading Post is one of the oldest stores in Banff, with a history spanning 121 years. It’s more than just a shop, it’s a part of Banff’s cultural heritage.

Stopped by the Banff Trading Post. It was okay overall — definitely worth a quick visit if you’re in the area. They have a lot of beautiful leather goods along with other souvenirs. Nice place to browse, even if you’re just looking around.

My partners father was a trapper his whole life, this little shop was such a delight to find. We spent at least an hour inside, saw the mermaid, and the shirts here are better quality and cheaper than Main Street. Plus, they are full of native made items.

Meet the merman. I love a great "gaffe" but oddly, they only had the "I met the merman" T-shirt in baby sizes. Still, lots of great goods here. Very nice little shop
