Great spot for a date night.

My wife and I both got the prime rib special. It was very good. We asked for horse radish and it was fresh and delicious.

I really appreciated the atmosphere. It was an older building but with just enough of a modern touches to make it feel good.

It’s too bad for Black Dog, and good for my wallet that I had to drive home. Their Scotch Whisky collection had some drams I’ve never tried before (which is not something most restaurants can say). I’ll definitely return to sample a few… especially their Highland Park and Ardbeg choices. 😋

Both the husband and wife owners were working the night we visited. I’ve often observed that when the owners care enough to be there, it really shows in the overall dining experience. Our visit confirmed that having the owners present makes a real difference.

Black Dog is a bit of drive from our home, but we will definitely make the trip back to eat here again.

We loved our evening here. I ordered the gnocchi in a Gorgonzola sauce. Very good. Also enjoyed the drink of the day, a bourbon mule. Asked half the maple syrup and it was perfect!
As a side point, my husband said it was the best burger he has EVER had.

Lovely spot! They don’t take reservations in the summer but were very accommodating to our party of 6 for dinner. Our server Grace was knowledgeable and friendly, and service was prompt and efficient. The drinks were delicious and we all enjoyed our meals, especially the halloumi, gnocchi, and black cod special.

Unfortunately the steak was slightly over cooked and the ceasar salad could have been fresher, but overall highly recommend and we will be back!

I want to love this place. "Mid" is a good description. Food is very good, nothing wrong there. Space is very cramped - no privacy. Their drink menu tries to be pretentious but it is very poor. Awful craft beer selection, they need to get some help there. My husband struggled to find one he could even choke down. Wine menu is "ok" and the cider tasted like hairspray. Could be good, but they have some soul searching to do.

Sat in the patio, it was lovely. Food was exceptional, portions were large. I would rate this as $$$ restaurant though, most of the menu items were $25 to $40 each. But you got what you paid for. Burgers are $22 but everything else was within this other price range or your pork chops were $34, trout was $39 but didn't mind paying that price because of the quality of the food and the large portions. It was excellent!
Service was very personable and friendly, everything was done in good time.

Great food, only one vegan option but it was a great tasting burger. The fries are also top notch. The schwarma platter and halloumi fries rice were a big hit at the table as well. The pretzel and sausage comes with a great mustard. The patio is a large size with decent shade. Sorry about the pictures, most were taken after we started. Cocktail and drink menu is vast and the Aperol margarita was definitely worth it.

My Mom and Aunt and I went for lunch today. 1 piece of fish and fries, stacked burger jr with fries, 1 stacked burger no bun or fries (still charged full price of $26). Water to drink. Cost was $79. There was nothing special about the food. People who arrived after us received their food before us. Will not go back there.

When visiting Bayfield, it’s important to know that not all restaurants are open every day. On our first night here, the Black Dog Village Pub & Bistro was one of a few open for dinner. They do not take reservations and we were initially unaware that other restaurants were closed which meant everyone would flock to the few places which were opened for dinner.

Having said this, they rotated their tables quite efficiently and the restaurant has a lot of seating especially with their outside patio. We preferred seating inside in an attempt to stay clear of the many bees outside… we were seated about 10 minutes after we got there which was awesome. It was surprising however for such a busy evening that we were not able to sit at the table as they only had one server for the inside tables. Nevertheless, we were happy to sit inside at the bar.

We tried their Stack Burger and Trout. Both were huge serving and were super flavourful! We truly enjoyed our selections and cleared our plates clean!!!
