Buntzen Lake is a gem! The hike around the lake is peaceful, scenic, and not too challenging — perfect for a relaxing day outdoors. You get a mix of shaded forest trails, lake views, and a few gentle inclines to keep it interesting. Lots of spots to stop for photos or a picnic, and the water is crystal clear. Parking can fill up fast on sunny days, so go early. A beautiful escape not far from the city!

Buntzen Lake Trail is a beautiful loop that circles the lake, giving you a mix of forest paths, suspension bridges, and plenty of lake views. It’s about 10 km, so it’s a solid half-day hike without being too difficult, and there are spots along the way to stop for a swim or picnic. The north beach is quieter than the main area, which makes for a nice break. On the downside, parts of the trail can be rocky and muddy after rain, and it gets very busy on summer weekends, so parking fills up fast. Also, there’s no cell service, so planning ahead is important. Still, it’s one of the best moderate hikes near Vancouver for scenery and accessibility.

This is an awesome beautiful trail. However, novice hiker me found the trail to be quite challenging as it is 80% inclines/declines…not too steep just constant hills. My step counter registered it as 44 staircases. It’s truly lovely tho - all very well maintained with just a few areas of roots and loose rocks.

If for some reason you have to choose between the trail on east or west side of lake, I’d choose East side as it consists of more lake views and less dense forests.

Beautiful beautiful lake! With very Well designed facility!

The dog off leash area is very well fenced with an open area connecting the lake, so dogs can play in the water, outside the washroom there are 2 dog parking kennels, each kennel is pretty big, how sweet!

And picnic area is right beside fenced dog off leash area and does not allow any dogs so human can do their own things and not get interrupted.

And the 10km trail is pretty flat trail, mostly in the shade, with some beaches available if your dog likes playing in the water, although the sign says dogs must be on leash but I notice 90% people on the trail leave their dogs off leash, but all those dogs are so well behaved, not interrupting other human or dogs.

We all loved this park so much! Will definitely come back!

We leisurely walked our dog around the entire lake, which took approximately five hours. The pathway is flat and relatively easy, with few steep inclines, although the overall distance around the lake is somewhat lengthy. The water is pristine, and the scenery along the lake's edge is picturesque. You need to book a parking pass online a day in advance, and there will be staff at the entrance to check it.

天氣晴朗時走這個步道是非常舒適的,步道平緩且地面泥道是乾凅的走起來不會濕滑,如果家中有老有小同出遊建議晴天時走Buntzen lake trail,比較安全。

We went for a forest walk along the lake . The whole loop is about 10 km. We did out and back on both sides. Beautiful forest with amazing trees and large tree stumps .
Closer to Port Moody but a nice way to escape the hustle and bustle and be in the mountains
