The Worst LRT system in the world? No gate at the entrances and some people just get on it without paying. Also no gate or barrier from the platform to the tracks(already people fell onto the tracks by people pushed from behind). Why not set up gates at entrance(pay to enter instead of hiring ticket inspectors? Inspectors can only inspect 1 car each station because the cars are separated). The money of City Arts(1% of City’s billions budget) & bike lanes can divert to invest a better and safer transit system like THE BUS in Oahu(Hawaii). The Calgary Transit and City Council should take a look at “Why Honolulu bus is the best system in the World”? The Mayor should ride bus everyday and see why not safe and dangerous in LRT stations?
Use the money(that hiring ticket inspectors and police…)for installing “pay to enter” gates at stations….the only solution to cut crime. Another good option is set up a small coffee shop or newspaper kiosk as a watch dog in each station….get rental income and more traffic watching by the kiosk employees. Look at other country’s(Japan rails/Honolulu)Train stations, safe platforms with barriers from the tracks, pay to enter security gates, kiosks like 7-11….
