Biggest concern with this camp is that they are far to cavalier with the access they provide to the local property owners association, whose members are given an insane and irresponsible level of access to campers. They even let them have events on site when camp is in session. Any local property owner can attend and mix with children of whatever age they prefer. The children are told to behave and be deferential to these local adults when they come for one of the association “meetings”. Having recently become aware of an inappropriate physical interaction that occurred during one such event, I feel obliged to post this warning for other unsuspecting parents who send their kids to camp thinking they will be safe, protected and reasonably insulated from random adults not associated with the camp. The practice of booking adult events intermingled with the core camp facilities, while children are in the camps’s care is totally insane
. It’s so insane and misguided that it is hard to believe, but it’s true. (If you want to confirm this for yourself, just visit BPOA.ca to find the open invitations to events while camp is in session) The camp may think highly of the BPOA as an organization, but there is no way they are vetting every attendee. There is also no way this is widely known by the parents dropping their kids off in the care of the camp. For sure these parents expect that access to their children will be limited to staff who are trained, vetted and identifiable. If you want a summer camp that controls access to your children, I suggest you make your expectations known and ask for assurances or look elsewhere!

Supplemental: Rather than speaking to this issue, the cap chose to have this review taken down even though it doesn’t violate any Google Maps policies. If it’s inaccurate, I invite Camp Kawartha staff to state explicitly that there were only LIT’s on site when the BPOA took over the camp for their AGM in 2023. But the point the camp is clearly missing here is that even the LIT’s are still children whose parents probably don’t know the camp is running conference space for random adults when camp is in session. The Camp’s response is disappointing and frightening. Rather than address my concerns, they chose to dismiss and attempt to discredit
. Speaks volumes about their character and approach to running the camp and only serves to confirm my concerns. Camp officials could do with a measure of introspection. It might give them cause to consider how this inappropriate practice looks from the outside.
