We went canyoning in the Heart Creek Canyon for the first time and it was an amazing experience! Communication leading up to the tour was a bit sparse, but once it started, everything was absolutely fantastic. Our guide Brendan was outstanding – very knowledgeable, extremely competent, and he made us feel safe at all times. With his clear explanations, helpful tips, and friendly manner, he made the tour not only safe but also truly exciting and unforgettable. You can immediately tell that he really enjoys being a guide and always has everything perfectly under control. An experience we can definitely recommend!

My husband and I did the Call of the Wild ATV tour and had Craig as our guide. He was awesome! The tour was such an absolute amazing time that when we got back to the village, we went straight back to book the Wild Wild West tour for the following day! We had Tom as our guide the next day, who also was awesome! Would not be able to say enough kind and great things about these two guys and the tour. Beautiful views, a blast driving through trails, and Craig and Tom were very helpful and patient in guiding us. We already are planning to come back again specifically do to more tours and hopefully the snowmobile ones next time we visit. Would give more than 5 stars if possible. Loved it.

I went canyoning with a group of friends at Canadian Wilderness School & Expeditions company on July 2, 2025. Brendan was our guide and his approach to safety and instruction was completely inappropriate for an experience with great potential for bodily harm.

When we first met in the parking lot, we were told to wear closed toe shoes. One of my friends had called ahead and were told over the phone open toe shoes would be fine as long as they were well secured to the foot. When we asked safety with open toe shoes he was snarky and said we'll be fine.

He didn't explain which gear was required from the large pile of gear and was very short and sarcastic when our group asked for clarification.

In the canyon, I had asked for clarification on where to stand to make sure my descent was safe and he said "you tell me". I have experience with outdoor climbing so I didn't need much instruction but others in the group were inexperienced and he didn't answer their questions.

Brendan also took too lax of an approach with the belay equipment and ropes. He did not flake the ropes before using, so there were large tangles. He also kept dropping and throwing around the metal belay devices. This can cause microfractures in the device and compromise the integrity.

Brendan also mentioned multiple times that he was out drinking the night before and was really hungover. His overall lack of attentiveness to safety and hands off approach to teaching people in the group made me feel unsafe. I don't recommend Brendan as an instructor at all.

Aside from Brendan's shortcomings, this trip should really have two guides. There were several locations that could have benefited from a second guide to help at the top and bottom. Everyone was able bodied and didn't get hurt but there were several points where Brendan couldn't do his task and help people at the same time so I was told to jump if I felt it looked safe. That isn't a call I should've been making.

Zach was the MOST amazingly caring, engaging, cautious and attentive to skill level & experience of the group to facilitate a memorable adventure for each person. He stood out right away by putting himself in the middle of the group on the hike and asking people about themselves and what they enjoyed at the end, making each participants voice & perspective matter. Canyoning is not for the faint of heart but it is for everyone who wants to enjoy the unique landscapes that support river hiking, water slides in slot canyon rock formations, rappelling down waterfalls. Don’t forget to wear a solid bathing suit underneath hiking clothes and bring a towel, snack & warm clothes to change into after. While this adventure is quite unique in of itself the guide curates the feel you remember afterwards-when you feel safe and well cared for it’s easy to enjoy the surroundings!

We had an awesome experience with Kris with a “K”. He is experienced, patient, knowledgeable, and a great guy!!!! I strongly recommend anyone looking for a true mountain experience to book it now. Mark was very accommodating in booking and the KRIS with a “K” topped it of. We learned lots and laughed so hard. Thx all of you! Manitoba will hear all about you guys. And we will be back again!

WARNING. If parking at the Heart Creek Canyon trailhead, make sure you purchase the parking pass that apparently is necessary to park there. I was not aware of this going in. I parked right beside where the tour guide and other participants parked. Weeks later, l received in the mail a VERY EXPENSIVE parking fine. MORE expensive than the tour itself. The company did not include this critical parking info in any of their "things to know" on website or emails. They should absolutely let the customers know that a Kananaskis Conservation Pass is necessary out of courtesy. I enjoyed the tour and do believe the company means well and does a good job. Just wanted to send a warning to others so they don't make the same mistake. And also recommend to the company to share this info on website/emails out of good business practice.

Safe, exhilarating and different tourist adventure!
Marc took my son and I off the beaten track today and away from the usual tourist locations into Kananskis Country where we hiked to the top of a series of frozen waterfalls and then abseiled back down each of these frozen artworks.
This mini expedition was well planned, safely organized, fully equipped and really great fun! Do yourself a favor and try something different while surrounded by the majestic Rocky Mountain vista. Spectacular!
Our family will not believe the pictures of what we did, when they see them!

An amazing day due to ZACH our guide. He was knowledgeable, encouraging, took the time to talk with all of us, to teach, tell stories, was polite when we needed correcting, and truly made the experience worth while. We will be requesting him when we move up to the intermediate canyoning.
