Fantastic guides , fishing and staff. From the owner Paul to all his guides and wonderful people that organize and make the experience amazing. For 3 straight yrs we have been blessed to enjoy few days each yr with Elk River Guiding Company. We are a big group and fished probably all the guides and I’m telling you this group is the best we’ve experienced anywhere. Thx JC , Tracy and everyone that made our trip amazing. CF

Elk River Guiding Company is absolutely phenomenal. From the first time we emailed the shop and when we walked in, it was apparent that ERGC is a world-class operation. We booked the Bull Trout safari for two days, and unfortunately, the Kootanay was blown out due to rain. Our guide, Sean, did everything in his power to try to find us fish on our first day, driving the boat for hours and trying various techniques. Given the conditions, Sean had our second day already booked for the Elk River with a focus on Bull Trout by the time we got back to the boat launch and gave us several of his own flies. Our second day was world class with our guide Andy. Andy is an amazing guide and was fantastic to spend the day with. He was extremely knowledgeable and not only helped us catch amazing fish, but also gave my buddy and I personal instruction on how to row and read different water features for when we’re on the sticks ourselves. The ladies in the shop were incredibly kind and knowledgeable, including helping us with licenses, booking trips, and providing their expertise on where we should fish on our own; they truly went the extra mile. I cannot recommend Elk River Guiding Company enough. Please consider booking through these folks if you are looking for world class guiding and the best possible on the water experience.

We booked two guided days of flyfishing the Elk River.
They booked my wife and I with James Barnsley. Very knowlegable and he put us on a bunch of nice Cut Throat trout and a bonus Bull Trout!
Folks in the shop were very helpful throughout the process from when we first booked our trip 5 months ago and when we arrived. Very professional.
Can’t wait to return to Fernie and the Elk River guiding company and especially fishing again with our topnotch guide James Barnsley

Bought a wading staff at the store on a recent trip to fish the rivers around Fernie. I checked the wading staff before heading on the river and all was in order I put the staff in its case and attached it to my wading belt. We hiked through some difficult terrain that day but I didn't need the staff until a river crossing at the end of the day. I pulled the staff out of its holster to cross the river and the staff was broken. Not sure how it happened but it did. I took it back to the store the next morning not expecting they could do much for me other than recommend I send it back to the manufacturer. I dealt with the manager or owner (not sure which one) who did mention I could return it to the manufacturer but that he would look after it for me and replaced the staff with a brand new wading staff. He didn't want to see me going out on the river that day with out a functional wading staff. I just want to say thank you and note not only the exceptional service that went well beyond what I expected but your integrity in looking after a fellow fisherman.

Great July week of fishing. shop employees super friendly, Fernie a great little town. Andy and Aaron our 2 guides. excellent at their craft. my 6wt got a huge workout on big bull trout, cutts were absolutely beautiful.

What a great experience we had with Andy and the supporting staff at the store. Our particular day was pretty cold and rainy but the team at Elk river was still eager to get us out on the Elk. Andy was knowledgeable and supportive the entire trip. Helping us cast better, always covering us with the correct fly, and giving tips on operating a boat. The provided lunch was good as well. The main was a bagel with avocado, cream cheese, and spinach. The sides were a bean and corn salad with some fruit and a cookie. We went out in a Hyde boat which was well maintained and filled with extra rods and beverages. I would not hesitate to recommend Andy and the team again. We will be coming back out to fish the rivers around Fernie with the team at Elk River
