Fantastic team. Excellently useful. The room appeared to have been recently refurbished and was immaculate. When I was playing in their VLT lounge, the man at the front desk handed me a free bottle of water. It seems that they are still undergoing a number of upgrades. On my future visit, I would not mind returning. The staff mentioned that their restaurant is undergoing renovations this year, and I would really like to try it out.

I got worried with the last review, but I honestly can’t find anything wrong with this spot! The staff were very accommodating from the moment I came in with check-in/checkout time as well as finding me utensils. The bed is very comfortable the room is comfortable and quiet, I was able to adjust the temperature to exactly how I want. Everything is clean and great!

well we pull up..2 broken windows and grafetti on exterior walls...stains on carpets as we walk to desk..dirty and dingy..so we ask to see the room...we go see it, i pull up the bottom sheets to check for cleaness....i see 2 black pubic hair on the sheet, i say hey come here and look at this, he would not look or aknowledge it...i say can u change yhe sheets? do u have another room? he says no...we go back to front desk and proceed to tell the owner...he didnt seem to care so we cancled our reservtion and quickly left...my advice is steer clear of this place...NASTY to say the least.

I usually don’t leave negative reviews because I’m a kind person who wants to see the good in everything.
However, there is no way to put a good spin on our experience with Empire Inn.
We got there after driving 12 long hours from Alberta (on our way to Nova Scotia).
We were tired, and just wanted a nice, quiet, clean place to rest our heads and recharge…
So my husband checked us in.
While he did that I realize there is a bar and VLT machines which were not properly advertised when making the booking so lots of people smoking and drinking and being kind of intimidating.
As we went to our room on the second floor on this tiny elevator that you would have sworn two ghost twin girls would be standing there waiting for you (the shining reference)
We got to our room.
As we opened the door the very first impression was the smell.. the whole place smelled like an ashtray.
Okay no big deal tho.
Walking further into the room there is dirt all over the floor as if it was not vacuumed in a few stays.
Great.
I couldn’t take my socks off that felt like they were choking my circulation so there goes my comfort out the window.
Okay, truly it was “whatever” because we were just hungry and tired.
So we went to use the phone to call a local pizza place to get something to eat after our long day.
What awaited us on the phone receiver was a big ol’ nose booger glopped on there as if intentionally.
Okay so now I’m really starting to recoil into my skin.
Maybe a nice shower would help make me feel cleaner.
Enter the bathroom.
Smudges all over the mirror and paper towel dispenser. Did anyone even wipe this room down?
A broken shower part sitting on the side of the tub… the tub scummier than a truck stop bathroom.
Like for real?
It was at this point we decided we would probably be safer sleeping in our sweaters and jeans on top of the blankets …too afraid of what disappointment would be under the covers.
It’s as if they took absolutely no pride in their hotel.
You couldn’t even go downstairs for a water from the vending machine because until 2am or later there was drunk angry people from losing their money in the VLTs.
It was not clean and it was not safe and it was not comfortable.
They had a home kitchen ice making machine with no ice and a microwave for their amenities in the common area (I guess that’s what it was cold).
So we did our best to get comfy and tried to watch some tv but (at no surprise to us at this point) they offered nothing.
Unless you had your own Netflix account and even then some weird menu popped up every minute to which you had to press a button to make it go away.
Come morning we couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Only to find no one at the desk.No one at all to be found.
While waiting, I had the misfortune of having to go pee in their lobby bathroom, where graffiti littered the walls saying things I can never repeat and I truly never felt more in the ghetto than in that moment.
They didn’t even try to paint over it or anything.
Incredible!
Anyways, We go to leave and it has a hand written sign on the window saying they were closed.
Closed you say?
A hotel?
Yes and the doors locked.
We couldn’t find anyone and we had to hit the road so we had to unlock the doors to let ourselves out and just figured we would call to let them know we had checked out. Well we tried every 15 minutes from 8am until 12:45 Pm when we finally reached someone to say we had left.
I couldn’t in good conscience recommend this hotel. You’re safer and better off staying at the Super 8 on the other end of town (where I stayed the first time I ever made this trek across Canada.)

I stayed here March 26th. The staff were very attentive, the shower and air conditioning were great. They let me check out at noon instead of 11am which helped as I was driving far. They let me park my van full of belongings at the front entrance for security because I did not feel OK with the parking across the street. The price was very affordable. I did not feel safe in the neighbourhood but inside the motel was fine.
