Bringing to light my experience with Melanie in hopes to save others from facing a similar situation.

Melanie brought in her horse “Houdini” for training/consignment to my facility earlier this year. She had the horse in training for 6 + months with our trainer, pay schedule was for end of month as per agreement. On August 5th 2024, Melanie came onto the property with her trailer and pulled the horse out, meanwhile still owing a board payment from previous month (July) and five days into the next month (August 2024). There was no prior notice to myself (barn owner) or the trainer whom she was in primary communication with. Our policy is very clear in the boarding agreement which was signed by Melanie upon horses arrival, that removal of horse without 14 days notice is required or a penalty charge will be incurred as well as a late fee each day board payment is late.

Three months have gone by, zero attempt of payment on her end, despite being given multiple invoices by myself or the trainer, only argument.

Very unprofessional behaviour from someone who is a farm owner running a business and well aware of what is costs to keep a horse. Next step will be legal action to recoup my expenses in small claims court.

Excellent facility and riding lessons program.
Horses are well trained and cared for. Facility is well maintained.
Melanie and Rachel are knowledgeable teachers and trainer and I’ve had a wonderful time in my lessons and learning a lot to improve my riding skills.
