We really enjoyed this lovely hotel, and couldn't recommend it highly enough. The staff were super friendly and very helpful. It is in a great location, with a 20 minute walk from the cruise port (worthy of consideration when 3,500 others are fighting for transport) and about the same to the old town - although the latter seems shorter when walking through the quaint and picturesque streets. Breakfast is served to your room and this is a lovely touch, with breakfast in bed, before exploring this beautiful city. You won't regret booking this hotel, and staying in this fantastic city.

Just perfect. Service is as excellent as the hotel itself. We’re used to Venetian and Wynn at Vegas, and this is better. They made no shortcuts; it’s wonderful.||Having stayed here, I’m convinced the rare negative reviews are internet trolls or competing hotels. We absolutely loved our stay and will be back soon!

We stayed in Quebec for 3 nights as part of our special anniversary holiday. We stayed at Hotel des Coutellier which was a very pleasant stay. |Our room was very cozy, and we had the best sleep in the most comfortable bed. The staff were very friendly and we even had a lovely anniversary card from the hotel team, a really nice touch. |The delicious continental breakfast arrived every morning and was hung outside the door so that we could have our breakfast in our room at our leisure. After breakfast you hang the bag back up on the hook outside the door. This is a great idea. |The hotel is in a good location in the old city within walking distance of the Gare de Palais and also close to the main attractions. There are plenty places to eat close by. Stop 5 of the hop on / off bus is nearby, close to and across the road from the Gare de Palais.|If we come back to Quebec, we would definitely stay here again. |We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here

Pros: very clean rooms. excellent service from staff. good location. literally next to the via station and old Quebec. Free breakfast delivered to room.

Cons: Banging noise from restaurant below at midnight. It’s so loud and heavy that the walls and bed shakes. Imagine you’re trying to sleep, and a bang just shakes u awake and the bed. Unfortunate.

I recently stayed at Hôtel des Coutellier in Quebec City and had a generally pleasant experience with one significant disappointment.
The Positives:
The hotel staff were genuinely wonderful throughout our stay. The housekeeping was excellent, and I was particularly impressed by the thoughtful lighting design in both the room and bathroom – multiple customizable options made it easy to set the perfect ambiance. Our room, while one of the smallest available, was surprisingly spacious, cozy, and functional. The bed was comfortable, and even small touches like fresh-smelling towels added to the overall comfort. The hotel maintained a peaceful atmosphere, and we enjoyed quiet nights.
The location is outstanding – just a 10-minute walk to the train station and a manageable 15-minute uphill walk to Old Quebec. I highly recommend dining at Légende, the restaurant next door, which was truly amazing.
The Major Downside:
Unfortunately, the breakfast experience was deeply disappointing. Despite clearly communicating at check-in that I cannot consume any dairy products, the hotel repeatedly failed to accommodate this basic dietary need. The first morning, they delivered the standard breakfast bag. After I called to remind them, they sent a replacement with white bread (which likely contained milk) and applesauce – hardly a proper breakfast. This same inadequate option was repeated every subsequent day, sometimes even including butter. I ended up not eating breakfast for the remainder of my stay.
For a hotel at this price point, I expected genuine effort to provide suitable alternatives for a common dietary restriction. The lack of protein options in the standard breakfast was already limiting, but the complete failure to adapt after multiple reminders was unacceptable.
Additional Notes:
The TV in the room was dated and not a smart TV, which may matter to some travelers.
While I appreciated many aspects of this hotel, the breakfast situation prevents me from giving it a higher rating. With better attention to dietary accommodations, this could easily be a 4-star experience.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Excellent boutique hotel. Basically walk up the hill and you're in the heart of old Quebec. Michelin starred restaurant and a cool old school bar on the premises. Highly recommend.

This hotel is comfortable and well located, with cordial and efficient staffers. My one problem was with the continental breakfast, which, when delivered to my room, was sloppily assembled and contained a commercial bottle of orange juice that had already been opened, and from which somene had drunk some juice. I'm hopeful that this was a one-time problem, and the hotel won't have similar problems in the future.

Hotel is clean, high end comfort. Room was very cozy and relaxing. Staff was friendly and accommodating. In room breakfast of pastries were good. Fruit and lemonade was offered throughout the day. Would definitely come back to this hotel again. Alittle higher in price, but worth the extra cost. Close to restaurants, parks and cruise port. 20 min walk to Frontanec and many other points of interest in the city.
