This hotel, despite its location in the heart of Moncton, is definitely NOT a four-star... There is no one at the reception desk: communications are mainly delayed by text or email. The hotel does not offer any private parking. There is no elevator: we had more than thirty steps to climb with our suitcases to get to the room. Ours had a window that looked out onto the interior wall of the adjacent restaurant and the bathroom offered no privacy since it was glass. We lacked hot water for the shower. Those who still wish to book a room at this accommodation should pay attention to the billing: in our case, the price charged for the two nights was approximately 75% higher than the price displayed by accommodation sites (booking, trivago, etc.). Note: expect to read a response to this review similar to so many others to convince you of the impersonality of this hotel.

Cet hébergement, malgré son emplacement au coeur de Moncton, N'est certainement PAS un quatre étoiles... Il n'y a personne à la réception : les communications se font essentiellement en différé par texto ou courriel. L'hôtel n'offre aucun stationnement privé par ailleurs. Il n'y a aucun ascenseur : nous avions plus d'une trentaine de marches à monter avec nos valises pour se rendre à la chambre. La nôtre avait une fenêtre qui donnait sur le mur intérieur du restaurant adjacent et la salle de bain n'offrait aucune intimité puisqu'elle était vitrée. Nous avons manqué d'eau chaude pour la douche. Ceux et celles qui désirent malgré tout réserver une chambre à cet hébergement devraient faire attention à la facturation : dans notre cas, le prix facturé pour les deux nuits était d'environ 75 % supérieur au prix affiché par les sites d'hébergement (booking, trivago, etc.). Nota bene : attendez-vous à lire une réponse à la présente critique semblable à tant d'autres pour vous convaincre de l'impersonnalité de cet hébergement.

To summarize in a few words; stolen bike, dirty room and lousy customer service, a real nightmare. I strongly advise against the St James Gate hotel, both for the rooms, the customer service and the area of ​​Moncton where it is located.

We visited the St James Gate Hotel this summer and it was an absolute nightmare. When we arrived, we realized that there was no private parking so the employees told us to park in the municipal parking lot across the street without adding any details. As there is no elevator or secure locker or storage and our room was on the 3rd floor, we had to leave our bikes locked on our car. We were robbed during the night and the next day the hotel employee simply told us that this happened very often and that there was nothing she could do for us. She told us that several people are being robbed in this parking lot. We can still read on the website that this is the place where they recommend parking even today. I tried to contact the hotel after our departure to discuss the incident with the manager after several attempts and over several weeks I was never able to speak to anyone.

Rooms: Our room smelled of cheap perfume to mask a smell of humidity, the only window did not open of course.

Français: Pour résumer en quelques mots; vole de vélo, chambre sale et service à la clientèle pourrie, un vrai cauchemar. Je déconseille fortement l’hôtel St James Gate autant pour les chambres, que le service à la clientèle ainsi que le quartier de Moncton ou il se trouve.

Nous avons visité l'hôtel St James Gate cet été et ce fut un réel cauchemar. À notre arrivé, nous nous sommes rendu compte qu’il n'y avait pas de stationnement privé donc les employés nous on dit de se stationné dans le stationnement municipal de l'autre côté de la rue sans ajouter de détails. Comme il n'y a pas d'ascenseur ni de casier ou rangement sécurisé et que notre chambre se trouvait au 3e étage, nous avons dû laisser nos vélos barrés sur notre automobile. Nous nous sommes fait voler durant la nuit et le lendemain l'employé de l'hôtel nous a tout bonnement répondu que cela arrivait très souvent et qu'elle ne pouvait rien faire pour nous. Elle nous a dit que plusieurs personnes se font voler dans ce stationnement. Nous pouvons encore lire sur le site web que c'est l'endroit ou ils conseillent de se stationner encore aujourd'hui. J’ai tenté de joindre l’hôtel après notre départ pour discuter de l’incident avec le/la responsable après plusieurs tentative et ce sur plusieurs semaines je n’ai jamais été en mesure de parler à quiconque.

Chambres: Notre chambre sentait le parfum cheap pour masquer une odeur d’humidité, la seule fenêtre ne s’ouvrait pas bien entendu.

The self check in was easy and efficient, great location to go for a walk to local pubs and restaurants, parking across the street was convenient and the room was the best part. We had the King deluxe with the spa tub , room was absolutely beautiful and very clean. The bed was perfect and pillows big and soft, perfect for after a long day. I would highly recommend this place to stay.

- ⁠Location(5/5): great, located downtown, near restaurants and some touristic attractions and close to the entrance to the riverfront trail where one can access kilometers of walking paved and gravel path for running, walking, or biking during the summer. Also short distance (650m) to the Bore Park for appreciating the tidal bore event that happens twice a day.
- ⁠Room(4/5): good size, with amenities for the stay including complimentary water, keurig coffee pods and some toiletries. One downside is the fact that the shutters do not provide enough darkness to the room overnight and with the early sunrise in the summer it can get brighter very soon. There were mock blackout curtains but only for decoration as they don’t close
- ⁠Cleanliness(4/5): Overall it seemed clean and towels were changed from one day to the next. There was some hair on the pillow case hopefully not from a previous guest and lack some attention to details like corner dust and top of counters cleaning.
- ⁠Shower(3/5): maybe for a picky guest, water power and warmth is important. During our first night, possibly related to the amount of people showering, our late shower was with near cold water. It seems that the problem only happened the first night and more likely related to heating capacity.
- ⁠Bed(5/5): Comfortable mattress, pillows and bed linen.
- ⁠Parking: not rated as it’s informed that there’s no parking at the hotel. But there’s a parking garage across the street that makes it very convenient to park. It’s free during weekends and $18 for day parking during the week.
