After a full cancellation in an earlier winter trip due to weather, Fred made recommendations and arrangements for me to return in August - so thankful he made the suggestions as we had beautiful weather while on the island.

I highly recommend Kattuk as everything was well communicated, organized and our guide Donald was fantastic in leading us to wildlife sightings and providing us with valuable information about the island along the way.

I had ample opportunities to take some wonderful photos!

Love the hoodie - thanks Fred!

I’ve had the privilege of going to Sable Island four times with Kattuk and each time
was a once in a lifetime experience. Fred is an amazing guide. Not only will you see breathtaking views as you hike amongst wild horses playing on the dunes and grey seals relaxing on the beach, you will also learn about the history and ecology of this special island. Sable should be on every nature lover’s bucket list!

I have done two trips to Sable Island with Kattuk Expeditions, and both were fantastic! Fred and his team go above and beyond to make sure the experience is all that it can be. The Parks Canada staff and the pilots are also supremely helpful and informative. If you actually want to stop and eat, the lunches from Halifax's 5k Cafe are fantastic. Sable Island is a magical and unique place where nature thrives untouched, and Kattuk will make your visit even more unforgettable. Don't hesitate -- go! You will be so glad you did. Five plus stars all around!

What an amazing day on Sable Island, September 17, 2024. Horses, seals, birds, and lots of sand in our boots! Kattuk Expeditions and Sandy Sharkey made it a great day!

I had such a great day at Sable Island! The island itself is so simple and peaceful. It’s so easy to just “be”, observing the horses and seals…wandering and looking at the rich diversity of plants and wildflowers. Thanks to Fred Stillman of Kattuk Expeditions, our trip was both safe and stress free. All we had to do was show up and enjoy! Fred was both informative and entertaining, generously sharing facts and stories. We also had the privilege or meeting and speaking with Zoe Lucas. Such an inspiring woman. All in all, I’m so glad I went. Thanks Fred!

A five star review for a five star experience.

From planning to execution, this was an outstanding adventure!

Fred Stillman, owner and expedition leader, of Katuk Expeditions, is a warm and generous host. He helped us from the outset plan, choose dates, addressed our concerns about mobility issues and provided valuable information to make our day a success.

During the flight there, Fred called for questions but we were a pretty quiet group so he just started talking about the history, the science being studied there, the ecology, the horses, the seals interjecting entertaining stories about his personal experiences guiding these expeditions.

Throughout the day, Fred engaged with all of us, pointing things out, giving photography advice (we saw some of the biggest camera lenses we had ever seen!), making sure we didn’t miss a thing.

The lunch provided by was delicious and perfect fuel for our very full afternoon.

Zoe Lucas, naturalist and environmentalist was kind enough to show us her current research and Sara looked after those of us who couldn’t leave without THE t-shirt. Both provided us with a different aspect of this very fragile ecosystem and the efforts being made to protect it.

Fred gave the fruit we hadn’t eaten to Zoe. Fresh produce is a luxury on the island!

We had planned to save our questions for the trip home, but instead, we all had a satisfied nap.

The warm hoodie was really the icing on the cake.

GO! It’s absolutely worth every penny!

We were fortunate enough to be two of the 7 to go on the last tour for the summer/fall season to Sable Island with Fred Stillman of Kattuk Expeditions.

If you can only ever take one adventure in your life - do this one. All day long one of us or all of us were saying "Wow".

I saw a post on Lennie Gallant's fb page that he and Patricia Richard were going to be on this tour and doing some filming for a song he wrote - Les chevaux de I'Ile Sable - The horses of Sable Island, and that there were still 3 seats available. This was just 2 weeks before the tour.

We thought - Sable Island - the dream of a lifetime and seeing Lennie and Patricia - that would be the icing on the cake.

The stars aligned - the weather was perfect and the flight was smooth and scenic thanks to the pilots, Dave and Michelle with Vision Air Services Inc.

Fred was a knowledgeable and personable guide, lunch from The 5 K Cafe was delicious and filling; and the horses were putting on a great show as were the seals. And thanks to Fred we were prepared - we were sent all the information that we would need - meet up times, what time we would return, suggestions of what to wear, what to bring, physical capabilities, etc. Thank you Fred!

The perfect end to a gorgeous day was the hour long life concert by Lennie and Patricia.

If you are thinking about this - do it! Shout out to Parks Canada. Sable Island is a gem. We had thought we are just average Joe's - no photography skills - would we fit in, etc. Forget that - book the tour, and go soak it all up.

Most amazing experience of the lifetime! Expertly prepared expedition ensuring everyone's safety. Unforgettable views of Sable Island and their protected horses. Seeing horses roaming free for centuries and resilient to the habitat was very moving and emotional.
