I love nearby so I frequently come here to watch the ships. You can walk along the canal from this point and depending on the ship and the grew you can even wave and say hello to the crew as they pass. Use marine traffic and you can determine which direction a ship is moving and what side it will enter the lock.

We went to see the locks as we hadn't seen them before and wanted to watch a ship pass through. It was really neat to see. There was a massive ship going through when we arrived, and we watched it move down to the next lock in the canal. There is also a schedule you can look at to plan your visit so you can see a boat moving through.

This was cool to see while vacationing in Niagara-on-the-Lake. I’m really not sure if my pics are from Loch 7 or Loch 5 but they are on the same street and we stopped at both. I had never seen anything like this before or a ship of this magnitude. It’s quite an operation and fascinating to see if you have an interest.

An interesting technical work on the Wellard Canal, which history goes back almost 200 years. Today, you can find an official viewpoint, an information center, a rest area, a parking lot and parts of the bike trail that runs along the canal. It is definitely worth stopping here and watching the boats pass by.

The Welland Canal is a 43 km (27 mile) ship canal in Ontario, Canada, connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. It forms a key section of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes Waterway. Traversing the Niagara Peninsula from Port Weller to Port Colborne, its eight locks enable ships to ascend and descend the 99.5 meter (326 feet) elevation difference between the lakes, and bypass the 51 meter (167 ft.) Niagara Falls. Lock 7 in Thorold, Ontario, shown above, is the highest point of the canal system at 174.3 metres (572 feet) above sea level.

I love to come here and watch the ships when my wife and daughter are at the outlet mall nearby. Hours can be spent watching big ships squeeze into these locks and hop up or down the Niagara escarpment. I find myself wondering about life at sea every time. The engineering that it took to build this is awesome. Video shown is a 5x speed time lapse.

This is one of my favorite things to do is to watch the ships go through the locks. Lock seven has some great views. The people inside friendly and helpful and really made the experience better
