Tldr: owner cancelled our booking less than 24hr before check in.

We stayed here a couple of years ago because it was affordable and along our way from desolation sound back home. It was very dated and run down, but it was handy and cheap and after 2 weeks on the water we just want a shower and a bed so we booked it again for our journey this year. Booked over 2 weeks in advance and even called 3 days ahead to confirm. The owner called me and left a voice mail at 9:30pm the day before we were to check in to tell me to find somewhere else because one of her current customers was staying and the room was no longer available. I called back and explained that was a huge inconvenience, and that we still want the room we booked. She offered to give me a number for another place that might have availability but honestly scrambling to find another place to stay at 1030 the night before with bad reception on a boat was a horrible way to end an adventure.

We ended up at the Marine Inn and will never be booking at Marland again.

I highly highly recommend the Marine Inn though, seems to be very recently revamped, its clean, feels well taken care of and the rain shower is nothing short of blissful!

Remember, this is a review of one of the cheapest motels in the area. For a 1-star hotel it is very decent. The owners are always available to get you what you need.
The only complaint I have is too many smokers among the guests. Well, smokers are usually the worst neighbors in any setting.

I don't know why it only has a 2.9 rating real quiet real comfortable super nice lady that runs the place.. the rooms have been renovated.. and absolutely spotless , the bed that I've been sleeping in here I like to take home with me LOL.. like Arnie says.. I'll be back:))

I don't understand all of the low reviews about this place. I think that perhaps viewers are measuring a 1-star hotel to the standards of a 3 or 4-star hotel, thus producing unfair, inaccurate reviews. This room exceeded all expectations given its very affordable price. The lady at the front desk was extremely friendly, it was super easy to access being right on the highway. The room was perhaps dated, but it was clean and spacious. It's a perfect spot if you're going from ferry to ferry. I expect I will spend many nights at this hotel in the future, as I frequently travel between Campbell River and the Sunshine Coast.

It’s a basic motel for a basic rate. Better than what I expected. New mattresses with mattress covers just wish they were a little softer. Newer sink and vanity in bathroom.
It’s not a new flashy hotel but for the price it’s clean, friendly service and quiet. Close to town and just up from the seawalk.
TV, fridge, kettle, duvet in closet and a fan if you need more cross breeze then the open windows offer. Overall a good place to stay with a good price.
Only suggestion would be to have microwaves out in the room.

Understand that I'm rating a 1 star hotel with one star.

Could be a decent joint, maybe it once was. Truth is, the old lady runs the whole place and she is in way over her head.

A place to crash. Amenities are basic, general cleaning and maintenance are not satisfactory.

At first I was sympathetic to the old woman's position but no longer.

Water is good, city supply.

If you stay here you can look forward to her berating her long term tenants for rent at midnight, running a leaf blower at eleven at night.

Rooms are outdated and in poor repair but like I say, it's just the old miser running the joint.

You really got to piss me off to get this kind of review and she succeeded in spades. I'd try somewhere else next time I'm in town.

About as basic as you get, just what you need, a fridge and water boiler.
I got the cheapest room for$92. Cabins and kitchenettes available.
Some nice considerations like an extension cord in the drawer. A big fluffy duvet in the closet.
Located on the highway, houses are behind the motel so there is no ocean accessibility. A five minute drive to the sea walk trail.
Numbered parking for each unit.
A big vehicle or trailer wouldn't fit.

This is one of the lower-cost options for staying in Powell River. If all you need is a clean place to sleep, this one serves that purpose. At the southeast end of Westview, it is convenient. 500 metres away is Pacific Point Market and Serious Coffee where groceries, beverages, and snacks are available. The Marland Motel room had two beds and a couple of upholstered chairs. It also had a television but we were unable to get it working. The place was not busy so our stay was quiet.
