Arnprior’s community centre features two arenas, swimming pool, and ample parking. However, the lack of resting and seating areas makes it less convenient and welcoming.

I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but after multiple frustrating visits to the Nick Smith Centre, I feel compelled to share just how far this facility has fallen short of basic standards. Simply put, this place is in rough shape — and it doesn’t seem like anyone in charge is paying attention.

Let’s start with the pool. It’s one of the most poorly maintained public pools I’ve ever seen. The water is often cloudy and has an odd smell, which immediately makes you question the filtration system and whether the chemical levels are even being monitored properly. You can see grime and mildew around the tiles, and the change rooms aren’t any better — musty smell, wet floors, and rarely-stocked soap or paper towel. It just doesn’t feel clean, and definitely doesn’t feel safe or hygienic, especially if you’re bringing kids.

The rink is no better. The ice is consistently rough and uneven, and it’s clear that resurfacing is either rushed or done without care. The boards and benches are worn down, with visible damage and no signs of repairs or upgrades. Spectator areas are cold, uncomfortable, and in desperate need of cleaning. The whole arena feels outdated and neglected — like a facility stuck in the past, just limping along without any real investment or pride in upkeep.

On top of all that, the general atmosphere is unwelcoming. The staff, while not rude, often seem disengaged or uninterested in addressing concerns. There’s very little sense that anyone is accountable for the condition of the place, and that’s frustrating as a paying visitor and member of the community.

For a town like Arnprior, the Nick Smith Centre should be a vibrant community hub — a place people are proud to bring their kids or spend time in. Instead, it feels like a forgotten facility that’s just barely operational. Unless there are major improvements — and soon — I honestly can’t recommend it to anyone. If you have the option, you’re better off driving to a nearby town where the facilities are clean, updated, and properly cared for.

Attended a “Parent & Tot” session with my grandson. This was my first visit to the facility. It’s a modern centre with good parking. The person at the reception desk was helpful and welcoming. The change room is spacious and clean with good quality lockers. The pool is excellent. In the shallow end, I could kneel on the bottom and have my head above water. It wasn’t at all crowded mid-week, in fact we were alone for most of the hour. The lifeguard was pleasant and helpful.
We plan to go back again.

Not bad. Came here for a birthday party and had a good experience. Only negative thing would be that we were kicking off the ice before our rented time was up. Zamboni kinda just came on the ice and started honking 15 mins before we were up
