Was tricked by the owner, we booked a room online at the modern motel and when we arrived to check in we were told they over booked but had a second place just down the road. We'll this second place was a dump. Dark and grimey rooms, was a Bible propped under the broken bed frame leg holding up the bed. Walls are paper thin and had neighbors who didn't sleep. Parking is horrible if you are lucky enough to even get a spot. No working recepticals besides one outdated power bar. 4 digit code to get in the room that didn't work. We were definitely tricked into staying here because this second hotel was not modern or what was advertised online!

The owner was very kind and helpful. Definitely a budget stay. To my surprise, the room had a microwave and a mini fridge. The room was comfortable, clean, warm, and quiet. While the place could use renovating and minor repairs, I'd prefer to keep it as is with its incredibly low price tag. Great location, great customer service, great value for the money!

I took a room #10 yesterday. Both lamps by the bed didn't work. There is a small fridge in the room, a bath, a toilet. I got a couple of towels and everything was clean. The location is not really comfortable and I saw a few strange people there. Don't recommend it if you travel with family.

My friend and I stayed here for two nights over the weekend and it was quite disappointing.
The room was not clean, the bed sheets were full of stains and questionable marks. The top blanket literally had (male) bodily fluids on it. I had asked for new sheets and he brought us two top sheets, which also had stains and hair on them.
The bathroom had holes in the wall where the towel rack used to be, the sink wasn't fully attached to the wall, and there was mould on the bottom of the shower curtain. Towels were stained, no ventilation, and the light was barely functional.
The kitchenette included a counter space with a sink, dirty dishes on the shelf, a dirty microwave and dirty mini fridge.
The air conditioning was a window unit but the control panel was half melted, somehow. It was also held into the window with a cloth or sweater of some sort, so if that was moved, its directly open to the outside.
The headboard of the bed was sticky.
Poor lighting and the electrical outlets were absolutely a fire hazard, my friend got zapped while plugging in the tv.
We ended up buying Lysol spray and wipes, as well as our own blankets to use as we had already checked in and payed. We cleaned every single surface of the room and sprayed the beds down before we did anything else.
No bugs that we had noticed.
When the front desk man had showed us our room and showed us how to do the code, he said it out loud multiple times even though there was another guest outside right beside us.
Not sure if all rooms are as bad as this one. We stayed in room 6.
We stayed here 7 years ago and had a great experience. We will not be returning and it is too bad the place was not kept up.

Price was super cheap at $67 a night. Obviously don’t expect any frills for this cost. All I wanted was a bed I could sleep in, a door that locks, and a relatively clean room - I got all of that. As a bonus the owner was a nice guy. Only reason I’m not giving 5 stars was because it was a dimly lit room: only three lamps and one wasn’t working.

It’s okay for an overnight stay. Owner is welcoming and he is also the owner of Modern Motels. This is the cheapest motel that can be found in ThunderBay. Everything is close to this motel. Our cat was welcomed here. Don’t expect too much when you come here. Not very clean. Bedsheets had stains and we used the bedsheets that we had in our hands. Not much lighting. Got three lamps in the room, one TV with no Netflix (channels available), coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge. Washroom is fine. Building is old. Quiet place.

It is old, though not country, lol. We stopped there for a night and the gentleman who owns it was a charmer! Adored him right off the bat. Was the room perfect? Definitely no. It was old, it was a little run down, but it was clean and fairly priced. Laundry Mat onsite, and not bad parking. He was up and greeted us on our way out of town the next morning. The only real negative I'd say is that he recommended we grab a meal at the bar across the street- we made it two steps inside and left. The place reeks of beer and vomit. I wouldn't recommend it as a place to eat. But for accommodations for a night, The Old Country is a clean little place to stay! While not the worst neighborhood of Thunder Bay, it wasn't the best either. But we had no issues.
