We spent 6 days here in August with family and it was great! The cabins are very clean and well maintained, location is just next to the river and there is a fire pit, bbq for the guests and smart TV so you can use your own Netflix/Prime in addition to basic cable.
There are two regular cabins near the river with space for up to 6 guests and a new cabin a little further back (maybe 30 yards) which is new and much larger (3 bedrooms) so a good choice for larger families.

The cabins are in the north area, close to a fantastic sandy beach and the centre of the town (5-10mins by car to Sobeys, 5mins to the beach). Also there were quite a lot of mosquitos in August, Gail said there are much fewer of them in July. We'll definitely be back.

The owner Gail is very friendly and can let you know things to do.The cabins are very clean and well taken care of. The view from the cabin is beautiful, you can sit and watch the river and boats go by. The dock is nice for fishing off. We will definitely be booking again.

My family of four recently stayed at the cabin and we loved it. There were plenty of space, the cabin was well-maintained/clean, kitchen appliances fully functional, and the free Wi-Fi and TV were good quality. The nice beaches and fishing areas were a short drive away. My kids enjoyed fishing and playing in the open space behind the cabin. It was convenient to pick up food & supplies from nearby fast food restaurants, Walmart, Sobeys and Canadian tire. The owner, Gail was pleasant and helpful. I look forward to visiting again in the future.

Okay... this is LONG overdue. Very long overdue... we own a hotel in the Caribbean but came North to take our family for a holiday. We had a number of issues come up trying to book anything, and we were bailed out of almost tossing in the towel when we ran across Old Town Cabins at Slave Lake.

We were able to negotiate the renting of both of the side by side cabins and count ourselves fortunate to have been able to do so. These are lovely properties, it goes without saying. You’ve looked at the pictures or you’re probably not reading this.

The kitchens are well equipped, the beds are comfortable with lovely linens provided, the living area and bathroom have everything you need. The dock was great for the boat we brought for a few days (or you can rent one a stones throw across the water), and the brick fire pit became our most used social gathering area; eating out on the picnic table became a nightly thing. All of this is wonderful.

What often goes unmentioned in a review is the host. We are in the hospitality industry, and have met a lot of hosts. Few have measured up to what we experienced here. Everything was taken care of, and more. Not only did we get access to extra firewood when we ran out from her personal stock, but we were allowed to use the washing facilities, our grandchildren got snacks (snuck to them!), and we were quite literally treated like family more than guests. We were not just allowed, but incouraged to use some of her private property and to enjoy fresh herbs from the garden during our meal preparation.

I am being a bit cautious here in some of what I’m relating because we don’t want anyone to pressure this lovely lady for “extras” that were so freely offered us (we think the grandkids may have brought us some extra attention!).

If you’re on the fence and trying to decide whether or not to rent here, you should get off of the fence and just do it. We did, and it was one of our best vacations in years! If you want to know more, you can contact us at Utila Vacation Rentals on the island of Utila, and we’ll be happy to expound more fully. Just reference Old Town Cabins on Slave Lake!
