Very nice walking (or biking) trail. Main trail is generally clean and dry. Quite a few offshoots from the main trail(s) for exploring. Good for birding in the spring and often see other birders on the trail. Takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete at a steady pace. As I'm not from town, we usually only visit this park once or twice a year. Always look forward to it.

A small piece of wild in the middle of Chatham, this nature preserve (called Paxton's Bush by local Chathamers) is a great place to let kids play their Swallows and Amazons or Swiss Family Robinson games. Because it isn't a park, the bushy places between the trails are free for exploration. One commonly comes across a partially constructed branch fortress or lean-to among the trees complete with evidence of pinecone or acorn battles. Yet the space is large enough that one never feels over run by wild children.
Dog walkers, cyclists, and people out for a stroll stay to the maintained trails, which intersect one another, meeting at a center bridge. This means walker/joggers/cyclists have the opportunity to make it a substantial outing through combining trails.

The google maps entrance is a “no parking” cul de sac. Select the nearby park on Oxley drive as it has an entrance with ample parking. (Would be five stars but the parking thing wasn’t a great first impression)

The trees were tall & majestic, and the trails were well marked & wide. There was several people biking on the trail, but it was nice to see the trail being well loved.

I am always on the hunt for cool new locations to explore with my dog, Daisy. Her and I had a fantastic time together both playing catch at the medium-sized park that sits upon the entrance to the trails. The park and trails were quite busy. Lots of other people and dogs enjoy the area. When we finished playing catch I brought Daisy into the trail system where her and I had an absolute blast cutting through the trees and leaves, making a mess and meeting plenty of new friends along the way. We spent around just over 2 hours exploring/playing in this area. Highly recommended for those looking to get some nature without leaving the city.

Pretty. Nice and close. The bush has recovered exceptionally these past couple of years. Stay on the gravel paths, and it'll be even better, quicker!

We accidentally found this tranquil little forest. I remember this place when it was called Paxton's Bush back in the 80's where we would dirt bike/bxm. Those trips were usually cut short by residents calling the police
