I want to start by saying this is NOT a negative review. But I feel there are some things people should be aware of when booking with this hotel. If you are looking for a high class spa like property this is not for you. If you enjoy character and historic feel with amazing architectural vibes you'll love the Royal. I booked a 1 night stay for after a wedding and it was perfect. The staff were friendly and informative and easy to contact. The site was clean and beautiful. The location is great if you're wanting something central and near to District 1881. The building is a charming heritage site with lots of wood, antique furnishings and a beautiful entrance staircase. If you like the spooky season vibes the floors had that old building creek and the rooms were charming with clawfoot tubs. I stayed in the newer addition of the bank wing, but I think I would have liked the original wing better. The rooms have a little more character. I will say even though the room was clean my bathroom smelled of smoke. Obviously someone had smoked in it at some point and the smell was in the walls and shower curtain. The beds were older but comfortable and there was some cute antiques, but there were some hole patch marks in the walls and the windows were caked with spider webs. Over all it is a clean older property with amazing staff and cute small town charm. Don't skip it simply because it's not updated and has some beauty marks.

My family and I stayed here with our young infant. We had a great time. The rooms are very beautiful and historic. Our rooms were all very clean and the beds were comfortable. The hotel is near lots of restaurants and shops. I was initially worried about noise from the street for our baby, but it was fine. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Perfectly situated near district 1881, this little gem is old but very well maintained. The staff are incredibly accommodating, notably both Raven and Breeze went above and beyond during our stay. The HVAC system in the hotel was excellent keeping the place very cool. The royal became our cool oasis in the heat of the summer. The rooms were very clean and there are a ton of great restaurants nearby to explore. Highly recommend this stay if your a foodie that likes to try different cuisine in the area. The rooms have an undoubtedly rustic charm , we stayed in 3 different rooms during our visit and saw several others . No 2 are the same!

It is an older style not huge room. My wife and I have been going there for a few years and love it. Has a bed and bathroom. We don’t need much more. We are busy so a place to sleep and shower is perfect.
Staff is always amazing. We are never disappointed.

We ended up getting a different hotel because The Royal Hotel does not live up to its advertising with “modern comfort” or charm. We knew that this was a historic building, and we’re excited to stay in what we thought would be a cute historical room. We were met with a room that looked like it was an old hospital room. Electric cords were running everywhere, there was painters tape holding the plaster together in the bathroom, the tv was as only as big as my head, and all the rickety furniture made me believe I was going to break something at any moment. The claw foot tub was supposed to be upgraded to include a modern shower head
it was either rusted or needed a major cleaning. Only thing good about this hotel was the location. Should NOT be a 3 star Hotel. How it has this good of a review on google is beyond me. When my husband checked us out, before we stayed the night, the lady at the front desk asked if everything was alright. He told her our concerns and how we found the rooms, and was only met with a “sorry”. No compensation, no asking how they could make it better. Just “sorry.” It took them an extra two days to give us back our damage deposit even though we didn’t even stay there.
Would not recommend. Unless want to stay somewhere cheap, downtown, and literally don’t care about the room or quality of sleep.

We stayed in the room above the bar. The bar is closed, otherwise there would be noise. The room has two beds. I slept really well both nights. There's hardly any noise except for an occasional truck.

There's a Keurig coffeemaker, but there's no fridge or microwave or a kettle. If you're a tea-drinker, you'll need your own kettle. Multiple restaurants nearby and a Save-On within a walking distance. But lots of places close at 9 pm.

The room was clean and air-conditioning worked really well, although you can't adjust it. Overall, a much better place than what you see in reviews, but I understand that different rooms will have different quirks. The building has this "old folks" smell, but the room didn't have any smell whatsoever. The walls are thin and you can hear other guests even if they talk quietly. If a child cries, then you'll definitely hear.

One strange thing is that you need a code to enter the building, so if you have a visitor, you have to meet them at the front door under the watchful eye of the attendant. It probably makes sense, because it's a rough neighborhood, apparently, in terms of property crimes. The neighborhood looks fairly clean and well-maintained, though.

There are no elevators and the stairs are narrow and steep, so you can't access floors above if you have any mobility constraints.

My husband and I had a 1 night stay at the Royal Hotel. We were greeted by Breeze, the General Manager, She was so friendly and kind. We were travelling with our kayak and were concerned about leaving it on our truck. Breeze solved our concern immediately and told us to bring our kayak in for safekeeping in the hotel's banquet room which was undergoing a renovation. We were so relieved and grateful to Breeze for going above and beyond to make sure we had no worries during out stay.||Our room was small but clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breeze asked us to call herwhen we were leaving and wanted toget our kayak out of the banquest room. We were leaving very early that morning but as soon as we contacted Breeze she joined us in the lobby within just a few minutes.||I have to say that it was Breeze who really made a wonderful impression us us. I think she is the heart of the Royal Hotel in Chilliwack. We would return again but we would first ask if Breeze is still here.

I booked a room for guests arriving from out of town on Nov 20-2025 They reached the property at approximately 9:45 PM, only to find that no staff were present and the hotel was effectively closed. They were forced to find alternate accommodation nearby late at night, which was extremely inconvenient and unacceptable.

What makes this situation even more troubling is that the confirmation email clearly states that check-in begins at 3:00 PM.
When I contacted the hotel today to clarify the issue, the manager on duty was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. When I asked her name for reference, she responded mockingly, saying “I AM THE MANAGER,” and refused to provide her name. She then ended the call by saying “have a wonderful day” and hung up.

This behavior is extremely unprofessional and unacceptable for anyone in a customer-facing role, let alone a manager.

I am requesting that this matter will be reviewed, including the conduct of the manager I spoke with.
