As a frequent user of Calgary transit, never had any issues before but lately i feel like they are hiring more and more rude drivers. Based on a recent experience, where the driver saw the person getting in .. She still decided to close the bus door.. Thank god the person did not get injured.. I guess we all need life insurance just in case before getting on the bus.. Be safe people while getting on the bus..

The amount you pay for a pass is not worth the service you get. Buses are often late, or don't even show up. I have been standing at a bus stop and the bus just drives by more times than I'd like to count. But, compared to other cities I've lived in the transit here is about the same, so props for not being the worst.

People complain about things they could fix themselves like following the schedule, being at the right bus stop, having the right fare ready, the drivers aren't there to make people's lives stressful, they're doing their jobs as safely as they can with all that's going on around them. People should realize that things happen and it's almost always the drivers who are blamed for it.

Me: Born and raised in Calgary, traveled extensively in South America, Europe, and North America used many transit systems

There's a lot to say about this, So stick with me here. I've used Calgary Transit for almost 20 years. Its been 20 years of sometimes adequate and sometimes disappointing service.

The Good:
As someone who has mostly lived in the inner city Calgary Transit offers a variety of ways for me to get to my destination and most of the time it works out. Simple, functional, and efficient. As a transit system should be, they don't need to wipe my ass too...

The Bad:
Since moving to Bowness, Route 1 has been my main ride. Lets look into the things that suck about the ol' number 1.

Drivers are always early:
I hate this. I'm happily rounding the corner 5 minutes before its ETA and boom there he goes. Looking at me as I wave and run hopelessly after him.

"Thug" teenagers:
Lets spend some time on this one. If I brought a 'boom box' onto the bus and blasted my Cypress Hill cassette when I was 16 the bus driver would have thrown my ass out in the cold. Every other day I get on this bus and there's a group of fake thugs sitting there with a cell phone on max volume playing some lyrically appalling horror in the presence of children and grandparents alike. Will the driver do anything about this? Not even when requested.

And another thing, if you wannabe gangsters are reading this...everyone hates it when you brag loudly about how you date raped your friend last night, and thank you for threatening to kill my neighbor when she politely told you to can it. Also, thank you Calgary Transit bus driver for not doing anything about that either...I thought maybe death threats were enough to kick people off the bus...

Lets just say I don't feel very reassured of my pregnant wife's safety when she is on this bus.

The Price:
I'll use a simple cost analysis to break this one down.
My usage: 32 trips per month for work only

Calgary Transit (just for trips to work)
Month Pass for me and my wife: (same as regular fare for our level of usage)
Total: $192

My Vehicle (trips to work only: 285km per month, carpooling with wife)
Fuel: $36.47 (diesel @ 1.10/L )
Insurance: $9.36 (based on percentage of time in a month spent traveling to and parking at work)
Maintenance: $20 (based on oil changes every two months, and other minor repairs)
Reliability and utility of owning a vehicle: Priceless
Total: $65.83

So, no real cost benefit to using Calgary Transit either, and we are just barely above the low income bracket, so no cheap pass for us.

In a supposedly "progressive" city like Calgary you'd think that environmental and social sustainability would be a priority. A quality transit system can help address this issue by reducing the number of cars on the road, improving public safety and accessibility and make use of sustainable technology.

Calgary Transit, you could be so much more...

I ride Calgary transit every day and have used it to get to every part of the city in every kind of weather....I find it to be very reliable, and most of the drivers are knowledgeable and friendly, I do not know why people would say anything otherwise

Someone should have a chat with the guy driving bus 1847 right now because even though his bus is off and doesn't have any passengers doesn't mean he can do 20 over the speed limit. It's 60, not 80, you're not driving your personal vehicle, you're a liability who is going to cost Calgary transit in the long run.

The folks in dispatch were incredibly helpful today when I forgot my phone on one of their busses. Even though they were obviously busy they made time to assist me, ultimately resulting in my phone being located and returned.

Was nearly killed by a transit employee leaving the lot this morning at 6:25. He completely ignored the stop sign at the back lot exit. Came flying out in front of me then proceeded to run the RED light at the intersection. Older GMC dark brown, licence BVJ-0400. Sure hope he doesn't drive a bus like that. Shameful!
