Take the tour! You'll be educated about the conditions the miners worked in, along with the draegermen who stood at the ready to rescue them. Keep your head low and appreciate the loan of a hard hat as you make your way down into the mine. Our guide demonstrated the level of lights that the miners had to work with. Many boys started their career in the mines at six and a half, working 10 hour days. (Something great for parents to remind their kids of when they complain about chores!) Everything here will make you glad you weren't a miner.
There's also good information about the tragedies of mine collapse, the bump, and other tragedies. Everyone in Springhill is related to, or close friends with, a lost miner or their immediate family. Some families lost several of their men in a single moment.
This is very much with a stop on your travels, if you want to understand the history and the people from this area.

Enjoyed our visit...very emotional for my partner as he used to work in the mining industry....he has lost many a friend there .. very informative guide...plus you get to wander around prior to your tour . After the tour of the buildings you grab a number and head down deep underground for a tour of the mine.....lots of steps wear good footwear..bring a light sweater even if it's hot above ground.

a lot on information about the miner's work, life and what happen in the history of the mine

-it cost 10$ to enter and it include a guided tour.

our guide was tony, excellent guide and was able to answer pretty much all our questions.

the entire visit will take around 1h max maybe 1h30 if you read every newspaper on the wall.

Suggestions:

bring a good pair of shoes forget the sandal
you will go down 300 feet in the mine.

they provide helmet

maybe bring a vest if you're sensitive to cold

The tour itself should take you between 45-60mins and costs 10$ per person tx. incl. It's definitely worth going there since you'll learn a lot about Springhill's history. If you get Tony as your guide, you'll be in for a ride since he knows his stuff. Bring a lite jacket cause it can get pretty chill in the mine.

Excellent guide, great details on the history of the area and the long legacy of coal mining and its impact. Getting to go down into a mine was an experience and just a small taste of what they saw so many years ago.
