Our men’s group from church had a great trip with Sunset Country Outfitters. Matt and Alyssa are great hosts and made sure our group had everything we needed for a great stay. All of the meals were delicious! Our fishing guides were all great and put us on some great fish. We will definitely plan to come back.

This was fantastic fishing trip from start to finish. Pickup was easy and efficient and only a short boat ride to Campfire Island. From there, owner/guide Matt showed us around the island and our cabins which were charming and spotless. Matt is a great cook and prepared some amazing meals for us. We fished with pro guides each day with newer boats, electronics, gear and tackle. Guides were all very knowledgeable and accommodating and put us on to some superb fishing. One of the things that really impressed me was Matt’s attention to detail and how he worked so hard to make sure we were always taken care of. My 75 yo dad was part of our group, and he’s not quite as agile as he used to be, but Matt made sure he was paired with the right boats/guides and ensured he was always comfortable. Overall this was a great experience and we can’t wait to come back! Well done Matt and crew!!

Can't say enough GREAT things about Sunset Country Outfitters and its owners Matt & Alyssa. Our group has stayed at a few places on Rainy over the past 10 years and have thoroughly enjoyed SCO and have already made plans for our return. Centrally located private island and dock, clean/comfortable cabins, evening bonfires, fish fry, world class fishing.... just a first class experience hosted by top shelf hosts.

Would absolutely come back. Had so much fun and the owner made the biggest difference. Knew where to go and what to use, so easy going and beautiful place. Experience of a lifetime. So chill, great food. I can see why people come from all over (I’m from AZ).

My brother and I (plus a cousin) took our father to Sunset Country Outfitters for his 81st birthday. We were worried it might be a bit much for him. His one complaint - a sore shoulder from catching so many fish. Alyssa and Matt are wonderfully nice people. They feed you very well, take care of everything you ask for, and even laugh at your jokes. This was our first visit, but it felt like we had been going there for years.

As for the fishing, we had heard September was a transition period. With Matt's crew of guides this appears to mean the fish will transition from the lake into your boats. We caught lots of fish; we caught big fish; we caught them on minnows; we caught them on plastics; we caught them while paying close attention; and we caught them while goofing around. Seriously, these guides are essentially professional fishermen who grew up on Rainy Lake. They have lots of spots all over the lake, and they will tell you as little or as much as you want to know about the ins and outs of how to catch them. If you want to ask a million questions about how live scope works, they will tell you. If you just want to know where to cast or drop your jig, they'll do that too. Plus they were all friendly, funny, and generous with their equipment. So if your cousin wants to snag 20 jigs for example, the guides will just shrug and say "that's Canada."

Would love to go back, and if we can find the time, we will.
