Just got back from staying three nights at the Josie hotel and it definitely didn’t feel like a 4 star hotel. The building looks great from the outside and the front entrance. The staff were all very helpful. We got to our room and when we opened the window to the mountain view that we paid extra for, we could almost see into a bunch of other people’s rooms who were also staring at as due to the design of the hotel. The room had a tiny coffee machine that didn’t work and was disgusting on the inside when we tried to fix it. The barn door style bathroom doors have zero sound insulation for the people using the washroom. ( one of the hinges was also breaking on ours) no microwave in the room. The shower had clumps of hair from the previous people stuck to the walls. Trying to choose a temp was almost impossible because the faceplate for the hot and cold was just spinning on the wall and not tightened down. If you see a bundle that says breakfast included, Don’t Buy It. I paid extra for three people with breakfast included and all they do is direct you to their restaurant and charge you over 20$ for avocado toast. I asked about the breakfast I paid for and they said that wasn’t a thing after charging me an extra 36$. Tons of extra added on fees and a wildly overpriced restaurant for the quality you get. Trying to enjoy nature and relax but they had tons of machines and construction going on so it was very distracting and not peaceful. Paid well over 600$ for the rooms and a couple meals at the restaurant and I definitely wouldn’t do it again.

The Josie Hotel is undeniably beautiful—thoughtfully designed with a modern alpine aesthetic, cozy yet refined rooms, and warm, professional staff who made us feel truly welcome. The atmosphere is upscale but unpretentious, and it's clear that a lot of care has gone into the guest experience.

That said, a few key shortcomings made our stay less seamless than expected.

First, food service is limited outside of breakfast and dinner hours. For a destination that caters to travelers who are often on the move or coming to town for events, it would be helpful to have lunch or snack options available during the day.

Second, there is no airport shuttle—paid or otherwise. In a town with only one taxi company that charges outrageously steep fares, this puts out-of-town guests (especially those arriving by plane without a car) in a frustrating position. Even offering a scheduled shuttle service for a fee would make a big difference.

Lastly, during our stay, the hotel hosted a family member's wedding. Yet the bar remained closed during key social hours in the afternoon, which felt like a missed opportunity both in terms of guest experience and business potential. Opening a paid bar earlier on event days would have been a welcome touch.

Overall, The Josie has the foundation of a five-star experience, but small operational changes could elevate it significantly for guests who travel from afar.

On a recent visit to the Kootenays. A good friend suggested our last meal in the area to be a special experience. He decided on a meal at the Velvet Restaurant & Lounge at The Josie Hotel. We were warmly greeted by Jay and lead to a table with a mountain view. As the sunlight was setting behind the mountains, the natural beauty was enhanced. Anne was our server. She was friendly and attentive. She knew the beverage menu well and was able to make recommendations based on our meal selection. She recommended the Smoke Show and it didn't disappoint. The barkeep served the beverages promptly and in fine fashion. Starters were the Calamari and the Burrata Caparese. Followed by Steak main course, cooked to perfection. Everything was fresh and tasty. The entire experience was relaxed and easy, which I was in the mood for. We had to pass our compliments to the kitchen as we regrettably said goodbye. I will be back!

The Josie Hotel in Rossland is absolutely fabulous! I went in the spring but this hotel is at the base of a ski slope and I can see how this would be the perfect location to ski or snowboard. The room was immaculate and clean, especially since the hotel was built around 2020. One of the best hotels I've stayed at in BC. Ample underground parking. The only letdown was the hotel restaurant (The Velvet) which I would give 1 star for convenience and no stars for quality or value. Still, if you're in the area, The Josie Hotel is a wonderful place to stay!

I was part of a group of 12 people who stayed at the Josie for a 'reunion ski trip' of old friends.

The good: The rooms, lobby and restaurant are cute and well appointed. The hotel is in an amazing location, located across a ski run from the main chairlift and the Red Mountain day lodge. It's also at the beginning of a pedestrian village that's just starting to get built out. There's not much there yet as of 2025 (one sport shop and one good mid-price restaurant a short walk from the hotel) but a lot of cool stuff under construction. The hotel restaurant has very good food, and the service in the restaurant and the hotel was top notch. We especially liked the ski/snowboard valet who grabbed our equipment each morning as soon as he saw us coming and set it out for us. The catering staff was very helpful in setting up a group dinner for us in the restaurant.

The rough edges: The rooms were uncomfortably hot and turning thermostats down did no good. By the end of the week, everyone in our group was sleeping with the windows open despite the fact that it was below-freezing temperatures outside. As other reviewers have noted, there is no hot tub (odd for a four star ski hotel) and the barrel saunas are a well intended but dysfunctional afterthought - too small for even a 5'6" adult to sit or stand comfortably, supposedly require reservations that nobody seems to pay attention to. The by-the-glass wine list was mostly bad BC wines and several of the beverages and menu items were perpetually sold out; it seemed like there was nobody empowered to deal with supply issues and/or modify the menu. One member of our group waited >1 hour when their room door lock battery died, something that seems totally preventable with a good maintenance program.

The photo is a view from our slopeside room.

It's a nice hotel overall and the staff is great. The restaurant is good, but overpriced for what it is. My one real gripe is with the underground parking. You need to pull up to the door, phone the front desk and then somebody physically has to walk down and open the door for you. This is an absolutely archaic system that they need to fix. It's 2025, not 1965. There are literally dozens of ways to make this process easier and maintain security.

Amazing place to stay on a beautiful mountain. Spent 7 nights here end of Feb. The rooms and public spaces are elegant, functional, and beautiful. The staff is really wonderful with everyone so caring and patient. Especially the Ski concierge service is truly first class - they handle everything efficiently while thinking ahead of your needs. The location is perfect minutes from the main lift. And everything is reasonably priced reasonably.

The Josie is my favorite ski hotel, hands down! I generally ski around 50 days a season all over north america and have stayed in a number of places of all price points and styles. Everything about the place from the awesome menu at the Velvet, to the ski storage system, to it's amazing location right at Red (also a top mountain got me) make it incredible. However, the staff are what make this place as darn near perfect a ski hotel experience as I could imagine. They are friendly, energizing, and SUPER forthcoming with accomodations to make your stay easier and better. I don't normally review hotels, but what drove me to write this review and will make me tell everyone I know to come visit are the truly special people that work here.

I live far away on the east coast of the US, but wow I NEED to come back!
