Myself and my husband had a whirlwind tour of the town hall and it was fantastic. Our guide was so friendly and welcoming and tailoured the tour to our needs. Can't believe it was only £3 each to go around. A real hidden gem. One of the highlights of our holiday. Thank you!

The old town hall. As depicted in the painting lot Lowry, it looks majestically even now. The second floor of the town hall is the gaol of Berwick. The place shows cellars and how they were accommodated. Very often the building seems to be closed, but I could see the inside during Berwick heritage open days. A good time to visit Berwick.

Thank you Michael for an excellent tour.
Michael offers a wealth of knowledge, all presented in a charming, amusing manor.

Although the Town Hall seems quite small, inside it is a bit like the Tardis; so allow about 2 hours.

There is a small entry fee {£3/person} and it is cash only.

Absolutely fantastic building that is a huge part of the history of the town.
The building can be accessed generally from the front, up a flight of stairs, however there is an accessible entrance for those unable to take the stairs.

The building is perfect for hosting events, such as weddings, fundraising, riding of the bounds, amongst other town-related events.

The inside of the main building is a great hall, adorned with majestic lights, decor and paintings of the late Queen Elizabeth.
There are other areas of the hall, less accessible to the public. In the upper levels there is a mock court room and the only dungeon/jail cells.

Berwick upon Tweed is a little run down in places but we enjoyed our stay. Nice parks, river walk/castle ruins/walls.
Interesting to find the spots where Lowry painted.
Good base for surrounding countryside/attractions.
A couple of nice pubs & restaurants but check opening times.

Tours at 1030 and 2pm. £3 per person in cash. 8 people on our tour. 2 hours well spent. Lots to see - history of Berwivk and the prison, complete with artifacts. Michael, our guide, was full of information and humorous asides. Wednesday afternoon tours have the chance to see bellringers in action and learn how the bells turn.

Berwick Town Hall, grand & imposing. The steps up to the massive front door give a clue as to the grandeur inside. Whilst not ornate, it is imposing almost to the point of wow! Many talks & events take place inside (e.g. book festival) & the location adds to the sense of orr that can be felt.
